Transformation Strategies Presents at the National Organization Development Conference

Topic - Integrated Leadership and Organization Development: A Global Publisher’s Strategy – San Francisco

Executive Development with a Global Publisher

Over the past three years, TS has worked with a global publisher to develop and deliver executive development programs for their top 400 leaders worldwide. Most of these programs involved intact business unit leadership teams and blended individual development with organizational development. Leaders received rigorous individual behavioral feedback about their effectiveness and impact and together explored the big dilemmas facing their business as they meet the challenge of delivering todays results and building for the future. The outcomes included new business and human capital strategies and a shared definition of “what it means to lead.”

Leadership Alignment & Action with a Federal Agency

TS was engaged to work with the emergency response unit within a federal agency. This team of 25 people experienced multiple internal breakdowns as they responded to the Katrina catastrophe. The pressure, stress and long hours required had taken its toll and while they delivered the mission, they created deep rifts within. TS conducted an organizational assessment, brought the entire team together to explore where they had been, what the pressures were then and how the past breakdowns were still alive today. This resulted in some healing conversations among some very passionate and committed people, role clarification, a series of agreements and strategies to help the group move forward.

Generation X, Y, and Millenials in the Workplace

Multiple times in the past year we have been engaged by leaders to help them understand and address issues with teams of twenty-something staffs. In one instance, the sales function consisted mostly of highly ambitious and educated twentysomethings who were ready to mutiny – which would have had disastrous effects on the company and everyone knew this. The leaders felt taken hostage. We interviewed staff and leadership, painted a picture of the dynamics and needs being expressed and brought everyone together for two days of frank and open conversation about what needed to happen to get things back on track. Some people did leave, most did not. They met their numbers, and are building a culture that delivers results in an environment of respect and understanding.

Leadership Coaching with a Media & Communications Company

TS provided coaching to over 15 executives from a global media and communications company to help them prepare for their next level of leadership. This included working with a rigorous assessment and feedback process, exploring critical leadership success factors and identifying personal strategies for each leader to enhance skills relevant to their current work and critical for their future.

Mass Engagement Process

Along with our MTI partners from Lausanne Switzerland, TS worked on a multi-facilitator team with a global bank. The process gathered the top 300 leaders worldwide in an alignment and action dialogues in Amsterdam, Rio de Janeiro and Hong Kong. Outcomes included a streamlined business strategy and agreement on the critical few global initiatives that would drive the business for the coming year. Through direct and open conversations they were able to build alignment across all of top leadership in a matter of a few weeks.

Leadership in Action with a Liberal Arts College

We worked with 40+ Directors in a two year development effort by tailoring our Leadership in Action program to meet their organizational needs and goals. The goal was to energize the Director level helping them to answer the question, “What does it mean to lead?” and mobilize energy for organizational change. Directors met two days each month for five months to explore their personal leadership, examine the organization’s culture and effectiveness, participate in action learning teams to explore strategic issues facing the college, and plan changes in their functions and across the board. It also involved numerous integration sessions between the Directors and the Executive Team to share learnings and plan for change. They report that having a shared leadership language and models, a strategic agenda shared by all, and increased collaboration across functions has increased organizational effectiveness in many domains. They have also implemented our Management in Action curriculum for front-line mangers to enhance their abilities in people management and accountability which they offer annually to new and existing managers.
